Privacy Policy

The Venerable Seattle Ludographic Society ("VSLS," "we," "us," or "our") is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Seattle, Washington. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and protect information when you visit vsls.net or interact with our programs.
1. Information We Collect
We collect information in the following ways:
- Contact and involvement forms. When you submit a form to get involved or contact us, we collect your name, email address, and any details you provide voluntarily (such as interests or availability).
- Donation information. When you make a Bitcoin donation, we record the receiving address, expected and received amounts in satoshis, U.S. dollar equivalent at time of donation, and transaction ID. We do not collect your name or personal identity in connection with Bitcoin donations unless you voluntarily provide it.
- Usage data. Our web host may log standard server data such as IP addresses, browser type, and pages visited. We do not use third-party analytics trackers.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To respond to your inquiries and involvement requests.
- To send organizational updates or volunteer opportunities, only if you have opted in.
- To verify and record donations for accounting and tax purposes.
- To improve our website and programs.
We will never use your information to send unsolicited commercial messages or sell you anything.
3. Disclosure to Third Parties
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We may disclose information only in these limited circumstances:
- Bitcoin transaction verification. To confirm on-chain donations we query the public mempool.space API using the Bitcoin address associated with your invoice. No personal information is transmitted.
- Legal compliance. If required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of VSLS, its members, or the public.
- Successors. In the event of a merger, dissolution, or transfer of VSLS assets, your information may be transferred subject to the same privacy protections described here.
4. Data Retention
Contact and involvement form submissions are retained for as long as necessary to fulfill your request and maintain organizational records, typically no more than three years unless required otherwise by law. Donation records are retained for a minimum of seven years in accordance with nonprofit accounting standards.
5. Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. However, no internet transmission or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Children's Privacy
Our website is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted information to us, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
7. Your Choices
You may request to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you at any time by contacting us at the address below. If you have opted into communications, you may unsubscribe at any time by replying to any email with "unsubscribe" in the subject line.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised policy on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of our website after any change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
